A beautiful painting by Brenda Munson (Guernsey).

Munson was born in Guernsey. The only time she did not live on the island was when she was evacuated to Halifax during the German occupation. After the war she returned to Guernsey and from 1950 she started painting seriously. In 1967 she opened the 'St James Gallery' in the Grange and later founded the 'Studio Gallois' in Lower Forest Lane, St Peter Port. Her work is very distinctive, often taking unusual viewpoints of vernacular architecture and capturing the Guernsey coastline in a rather somber but loving way. Her landscapes are devoid of figures, which she considered 'disturbing'. She often said that visitors did not like her work, possibly because her paintings did not capture the island in the bright sun. It is clear that cold winter days, where shades of gray predominate, inspired her the most.

In good condition, with minimal signs of wear on the canvas in 2 places.

Signed and dated lower right: 1978.
